Skibbereen to Wage Tug of War on Breast Cancer this October

Town Offers Cups of Support for Breast Cancer Awareness!

Sean Murray’s Fashions, Skibbereen are asking the women of Ireland to give them their old bras to raise support and money in aid of the Irish Cancer Society this October.

Sean Murray’s which is home to West Cork’s largest lingerie department is asking ladies to send in their old bras with a donation to the charity. Ladies who donate will also receive a free bra fitting as well as a 10% discount on any bra bought in-store with a further 10% going towards the charity donated by Sean Murray.

The aim of the campaign is to cover the town in bras and hold a tug of war with the collected bras on Main St. Skibbereen at the end of the month to symbolise Irish women’s battle with breast cancer. To coincide with the campaign, Sean Murray’s will be holding a special in-store fashion show also towards the end of October, again with all funds going to the Irish Cancer Society.

Speaking of the campaign Sean Murray said “We really wanted to do something different to raise awareness for Action Breast Cancer Campaign. Too many women die each year from breast cancer and all too often it can be avoided by regular check ups and being aware. This campaign is also a fun one so we are asking women from all over Ireland to send us their old bras so we can have a tug of war with them! It might sound strange but we all need some light hearted fun in our lives and if it draws attention to the wonderful work done by The Irish Cancer Society while raising funds then we’ll be very happy.”

Also speaking of the event, Rose O’Dea of The Irish Cancer Society said “It is great to have businesses like Sean Murray’s in Skibbereen get behind our Breast Cancer Awareness Month by doing something really different and fun. We hope that women everywhere will send in their old bras to demonstrate their support for woman with Breast Cancer in their community. I am sure that every woman has at least one or two old bras in a drawer so please send them to Sean Murray’s and help raise vital funds for the family and friends you love.”

Every year in Ireland more than 2,500 women are diagnosed with breast cancer. The money raised will go towards breast cancer research, support to patients and Breast Cancer prevention and early detection.

Ladies can send their unwanted bras to Sean Murray’s, Main St. Skibbereen, Co. Cork.
